Hey, Amy here.
I know you hear me talk about authenticity a lot... because I believe that it's such an important topic.
The importance of being true to yourself, and showing up for others in a way that is true for you...
and not trying to be like anyone else... just being yourself through and through.
It's actually a disservice to the world when we don't show up fully and authentically, because we rob others of the experience who we are completely and uniquely.
I'm reading a book right now called the Book of Awakening, by Mark Nepo. It's a book that was given to me by my dad years ago and never really got into it until now.
There's a verse for each day of the year... and I read a verse each night before I go to bed.
A couple of nights ago, I read a verse that really moved me, about being authentic.
Here are some of the things i says:
"Being authentic is the only thing that reveals to us our kinship with life.
Only when we open ourselves and expose our essence before another, only in being this authentic can real kinship be known and real kindness released.
It is why we are moved, even if we won't admit
it, when strangers let down and show themselves. It is why we stop to help the wounded and the real."
We had a substitute teacher at martial arts last night and she was taking us through our 19 move pattern multiple times, the pattern that we need to know for our test.
She
started by saying,
"This school of Tae Kwondo is never about being perfect. There's no such thing. If you try to be perfect you will freeze. Just do the moves and when you notice something is off, make the correction. We learn as we go."
She even made a comment later in the class about how she reminds herself that her teaching doesn't have to be perfect either... that if she forgets something, she can ask the class for help.
I loved her realness and her humility... it's so much more attractive and respectful than
an egotistical teacher showing up acting like they have it all together and like they know everything, isn't it?
And her advice is good advice about everything in life... it's not about being perfect, it's about being real.
If we attempt to be anything BUT real, we will freeze and be stopped in our tracks.
Being real means being authentic... we just show up as we are and we learn as we go.
