Hey, Amy
here.
We are a couple of weeks into the year now so you may be starting to notice it right about now if you are already sabotaging yourself when it comes to hitting the goals you set for the new year.
One of the things that stops us the most is that we continuously live into the identity that we have created for ourselves.
And a lot of this is
not even a conscious thing... it's just the way that we see ourselves based on the results we have gotten in the past or the behaviors that we've had in the past, or our habits or our failures or whatever it is.
And when we set goals that would require us to go beyond that identity of ourselves, we often don't hit the goals, because deep down, we can't see ourselves as the person we would need to be in order to hit
them.
We get trapped in this identity that we made for ourselves based on our past.
So, here's something you can do to shift that, to make it way easier to move beyond that old identity. I call it an identity reset... and it's so simple.
When you hear yourself saying something negative about yourself (either in your mind or out loud-
it works either way), add this phrase to the beginning of the statement.
The phrase is,
"Up until this point..."
So, for example, if you are trying to lose weight but you are saying to yourself (or to someone else) "I've always been overweight"... do you see how that is an identity that you have created?
And do you see that
if you keep telling yourself that that you will continue to live into it, because that's who you see yourself as?
So, instead, you can say
"Up until this point, I've been overweight..."
That will immediately give your subconscious mind a totally different message than just saying "I've
always been overweight" or "I'm overweight."
You are telling your subconscious mind and the universe, that’s a thing of the past. It’s not who I am anymore.
And you can use this for anything.
You can say, "Up until this point, I haven't had the success i desire in my business" rather than "my
business has never been successful."
or "up until this point I haven't found my ideal relationship." (but I know it's right around the corner)
or "up until this point I've been feeling very depressed." (and now I'm ready to find joy in my life).
Do you see how much better that feels than, "I am
depressed"?
It's a way to give yourself a blank canvas to start over on, rather than trying to paint over an old canvas with a bunch of ugly paint on it.
It's a way to completely reset without having to bring your past with you into your future.
It's a way to turn the page in your book, in
your story, to start a new chapter... or, even better, to start a whole new book.
And it's just a more loving and beautiful way to talk to yourself and to talk ABOUT yourself.
HINT: When you are talking about yourself, it fees better to the person on the receiving end of your statement as well.
