Hey, Amy
here.
I just finished going through the Tao Te Ching verses, one per day, for the 4th time... daily, every day.
I love the Wayne Dyer version, Change your Thoughts, Change Your Life... so that's the one I just read for the 4th time.
I did it with my friend Linda the first three times, and then I just went through it this fourth time with my friend Mike.
We share our takeaways each day with each other which is always super helpful...
And it's been really cool to see how different my takeaways are each time I go through it. I can tell I've evolved and grown because different things speak to me each time, or I understand things at a deeper level.
I always get a little sad when I get to the end, to the 81st verse.
I feel complete in a
sense, but I also always want more. So I guess that's why I keep going through it over and over. :)
A lesson that Linda and I did yesterday in a different book was actually a perfect reminder that to get the most out of any spiritual teaching, or any teaching really, you have to apply it to your life, not just read it.
Here are some of the notes I jotted down
yesterday, from chapter 85 in the book called 365 Tao (my interpretation of the chapter):
You can labor for years under a master trying to learn spiritual teachings, but the only way to really learn them is to apply them to your own life.
None of the esoteric knowledge matters unless you can make it work for yourself.
Even in the wake of our spiritual discoveries, life will be as thorny and problematic as ever. This does not mean our study of the Tao (substitute your spiritual path here) is useless. It is our opportunity to apply what we have learned.
Only when we express ourselves and take action in the world does our acquisition of spiritual knowledge and skill become worthwhile.
And I find this is so true.
I believe this is true about anything. Studying anything (principles, marketing strategies or whatever) won't really change your life or your business unless you apply what you learn to your life and really live by it.
And fumble and fail sometimes as you go, and then tweak it and apply it again.
We have to express ourselves and take action in the world... and then our
knowledge and skill become worthwhile.
Studying will never be enough.
