Hi, Amy here.
I've been traveling for a while... I had a death in the family and I went up north to New England to be with my family, so I missed a couple of weeks of boxing and martial arts and I've just been getting back to it, which feels so good.
You
may have heard me share some of the wisdom that I have received from my martial arts teacher in the past. He always has us circle up at the end of class and he speaks to us for a few minutes.
I love it so much, he is so wise on so many levels, and he always gives us amazing advice that we can apply to other areas of our lives.
Last night he was talking
about the three rules that he gives his students. He is a physical education teacher at a school by day, and he was talking about how many teachers have all kinds of rules like "stand in line", "don't touch this", or whatever.
He said he only has three rules, and they are:
1- respect yourself
2- respect others
3- respect the space
He said it takes time to help his students understand what it means to do these things. And he gave us some examples.
For example, one way of respecting yourself is making sure you wore the proper shoes to gym class. Helping someone get up off the floor is an example of a way you can respect others. Picking up after yourself or leaving things the way you found them are some ways of respecting the space. And
there are so many more examples of all of these.
I was thinking about these rules and how we can apply them in all areas of our lives. And I was thinking about how we can apply them to our businesses.
For example, on social media, imagine if people followed these rules. I feel like it would be a much different experience.
We are so fortunate to have all of these social media platforms. And, as we all know, this hasn't always been the case.
These platforms (most of which are free), make our lives and our businesses so much easier in so many ways
They really do deserve our respect. We should not misuse them. And the people on these platforms deserve our respect as well.
