Hey, Amy here.
Today marks the 38th anniversary of the day my mom died in a car accident.
This time of year is always very significant to me... she died in my car and I found out on July 4th because I was at a beach house with my friends celebrating our high school graduation.
My whole life
changed in that moment. I was 18.
My mom and my family is all I think about every July 3rd. It is an important day for me and my family. It marks a pivotal day in all of our lives.
It's one of the most significant events in my life that is responsible for who I ended up becoming in my life (the good and the bad and the ugly).
And I believe we all have pivotal moments like this in our lives, things that change us, significantly and forever.
We all have a choice in our lives... we can focus on what we've lost or on what remains.
And we all have the ability to use our lives as our message and to use our experiences as a way to help others as we walk on our path through this lifetime.
There's a quote from Frank Bruni (author of The Beauty of
Dusk) that I love. He said,
“There are devastations that break a heart open and there can be beauty in the rupture and the shards."
It's such a beautiful reminder to look for the beauty in our devastations and to focus on what remains.
