This time of year brings up a lot of emotions for me as I remember experiencing one of the hardest moments in my life.
About 7 years ago at this time of year, I was getting ready to throw in the towel.
After many years of exhausting my energy, trying everything I could think of to build my business, and just spinning my wheels, I had had enough.
My rock bottom was when, after promising my kids I would take
them to Disney World for Thanksgiving when I hit a goal I had set for myself in my business, I had to go back on my word to them.
After running myself ragged to achieve my goal on time (and I had been shooting for this goal for 5 years leading up to this, too), I didn’t hit the goal.
Meanwhile, my kids had been SO excited about the trip that they made a calendar and were crossing of the days counting down to Thanksgiving when we were supposed to be leaving on our trip.
So having to have the conversation with them to tell them that we weren’t going was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Not only were they so disappointed, but I was
left feeling inadequate, like a total loser. I felt like I was failing in my ability to be a positive role model for my kids, to lead by example… because, no matter how hard I tried (for over 5 years!), I couldn’t succeed in my business.
And then one day everything shifted for me.
In
entered my introduction to Attraction Marketing.
I met someone who was having an unspeakable amount of success, and she wasn’t doing any of the things that I was doing (things that I despised doing). I was shown another way of marketing, another way of building my business.
And, unlike everything that I had been
doing, it did NOT include making cold calls, plastering cars in parking lots with flyers (or any type of spam whatsoever), or pestering my friends and family for their support. It was a total breath of fresh air.
I started to learn a MUCH more effective way of marketing… a way that helped me build a brand and an audience of targeted people who were actually seeking
out what I was offering.
And very quickly everything changed for me.
Not only did I start to achieve results… but I was hitting my goals BEFORE the date I set to hit them and I was surpassing the goals I was setting. I was also LOVING what I was doing… every bit of it… and that was certainly not the case when I was cold
calling and spamming.
